Feedback form the judging panel

“The standard of work from all the children was very high and showed a great range of interpretation of the poem. The work showed us that they really enjoyed the poem,” said one of the judges Martina Hamilton of the Hamilton Art Gallery in Castle St.

“It is very encouraging to see so many teachers across so many schools embrace the competition and embrace Yeats and his very visual poetry for the benefit of their pupils”, said Mary Hough, director Sligo Education Centre who also judged the work.

Catherine Fanning who worked with particular schools through the Primary Schools project thanked all the children who got involved in the project and those who had entered the competition. “We would love to have given many more prizes, because the standard was so high. There was lots of great use of colour and really imaginative white birds. Yeats himself would have loved them!”
